Chaplain

Chaplaincy at Rockville State School is predominantly funded through the National School Chaplaincy and Student Welfare Program (2 days a week). School funds provided by the Queensland government for educational purposes are not used to support chaplaincy services.

Our Chaplain works in the school 2 days a week.

Our chaplain is employed by Scripture Union Queensland, and seeks to offer practical support to the school community through programs and events, and is a friendly face and positive example to all students. Our chaplain helps to make the school a positive learning environment for all students, and assists other support staff to ensure every child is looked out for.

Speech-Language Pathologist  

The Speech-Language Pathologist (Judith Rathmell) is funded through Rockville State School as a school purchase three days a week. In addition, the school receives, on average, three days a term through a regional allocated model. Judith has worked in Education Queensland for 16 years as a regional speech language pathologist.Services at Rockville target speech and language difficulties. While the target group is mainly in the lower school, middle school students may be prioritized for support. The aim is to ensure all students have the necessary pre-literacy skills to acquire reading skills.

Spoken language abilities underpin the ability to learn to read and spell. Students need to be able to pronounce words accurately; understand and express themselves in words and understand that words can be broken down into sequences of sounds and manipulated (phonological awareness). Students may be seen individually or in small groups depending on their area of difficulty.

Guidance Officer

Our Guidance Officer, Kerrie Halaufia visits Rockville one day a week.  Referrals can be made by staff or parents/carers of children who are experiencing learning or emotional difficulties.
At times the Guidance Officer may work with groups of children or with individual children. The Guidance Officer is also available to discuss issues with parents.  Before a child is seen by the Guidance Officer, the issue will be discussed with parents and permission sought.
